Dr Lucille Kelsall‑Knight DProfHW, MSc, BN (Hons), RNC is an Associate Professor in Children’s Nursing and the Director of Pre‑Registration Nursing Programmes (BNurs/MNurs) at the University of Birmingham, UK. She has practised as a qualified children’s nurse since 2004, with extensive clinical experience in paediatric care, including acute settings and cardiology, before moving into higher education and research.
Lucille’s academic work focuses on improving healthcare for diverse families and marginalised groups. Her research explores LGBTQ+ parenting, inclusive healthcare practices, and experiences of domestic violence and abuse, contributing to literature on sexual minority parents’ access to healthcare and barriers in adoption processes. She has published multiple peer‑reviewed articles, book chapters, and a children’s picture book inspired by her doctoral study, and has received recognition from the Royal College of Nursing Research in Child Health community (RiCH) Award for her contributions.
As a committed educator, Dr Kelsall‑Knight teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes, integrating clinical expertise with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and person‑centred care. Beyond academia, she engages with national steering groups on adoption diversity and supports prospective adopters through community initiatives. Her work continues to shape inclusive paediatric nursing education and practice, fostering compassionate care for all children and families.
